La chiesa della Madonna della Purità, S. Pio e San Leone è a navata unica, a croce latina: ha la volta a botte, tre cappelle per lato e l’abside. L’ingresso, posto sotto un arco, serviva come pas¬saggio dal palazzo dei fondatori, il Principe Andrea D’Avalos e sua moglie Anna de Guevara.
La prima pietra fu benedetta dall’Arcivescovo di Benevento, Mons. Giovanni Battista Foppa nel 1654, la costruzione terminò nel 1683; il 4 ottobre 1687 fu consacrata dal Cardinale Vincenzo Maria Orsini; è stata chiesa patronale fino al 5 luglio 1970.
Il quadro della Purità fu rubato il 12 marzo 1996; ora al muro del braccio sinistro vi è l’opera in rame del Maestro Pasquale Ianniello (artista locale).
Sei tele di Orazio Malinconico (1661-1709) sono agli altari laterali; i quadri raffigurano: uno il SS. Cristo, la Madonna, S. Giovanni e S. Maria Maddalena; un secondo la Madonna; S. Anna, Nostro Signore e S. Giuseppe; un terzo S. Lucia e S. Agata, S. Barbara e S. Apollonia; il quarto S. Rocco e S. Liborio; il quinto S. Gaetano e S. Andrea da Avellino; il sesto S. Ignazio e S. Francesco Saverio . Sull’altare maggiore troneggia la statua della Pietà.
La chiesa è impreziosita da: la tela della Madonna di Pompei (Fryda Ciletti del 1947); la tela del Sacro Cuore di Gesù di D. Servodio del 1970; la tela raffigurante S. Giovanni Paolo II di C. Compare del 2011; la tela col volto di S. Rita di C. Compare; le statuette del Cuore di Gesù, di Sant’Anna con Maria Bambina; e di Sant’Agnese; le statue di S. Gabriele; S. Francesco Romano; S. Antonio; dell’ Immacolata e di San Padre Pio da Pietrelcina; il volto marmoreo di S. Leone.
Vi è un pulpito in legno finemente intagliato sorretto da una grande aquila.

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF PURITY – SAN PIO – SAN LEONE

The Church of Our Lady of Purity, St. Pio and St Leone has a single nave, of latin cross: there is a barrel vault, three chapels on each side and an apse. The entrance is placed under an arch that served as passage from the founders’ palace, Prince Andrea D’avalos and his wife Anna de Guevara.
The first stone was blessed by the Archbishop of Benevento, Giovanni Battista Foppa in 1654 and its construction ended in 1683; on October 4, 1687 it was consecrated by Cardinal Vincenzo Maria Orsini; it served as a patronal Church until July 5, 1970.
The painting of the Purity was stolen on March 12, 1996; a copper work of Master Pasquale Ianniello (local artist) lies on its left arm wall .
Six canvasses by Horace Melancholic (1661-1709) are at the side altars depicting Christ, our Lady, St. John and St. Mary Magdalene; Our Lady, St. Anne, our Lord and St. Joseph; St. Lucy and St Agata, St. Barbara and St. Apollonia; St. Rocco and St. Liborio; St. Gaetano and St. Andrew from Avellino; St. Ignatius and St. Francis Xavier. On the high altar stands the statue of the Piety.
The church is embellished by: the painting of our Lady of Pompeii (Fryda Ciletti of 1947); the canvas of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by D. Servodio of 1970; a canvas depicting St. John Paul II by C. Compare of 2011; a canvas portraiting St. Rita by C. Compare; the statuettes of Jesus Heart, St Anne with the baby Mary and Sant’Agnes; the statues of St. Gabriel, of St. Francis Romano, of St. Anthony, of the Immaculate and of St. Pio from Pietrelcina; a marble face of St. Leo.
We also notice a finely carved wooden pulpit, sustained by a big eagle.
